Introduction to Forensic Science and Law
3 Credits

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Intersection of science and law provides us with new tools and methodologies for discovering truth and pursuing justice.  This course is designed to provide a broad overview of that intersection.  Concepts and doctrines in the areas of criminal and civil law, the roles of the expert, and pertinent rules of evidence will be covered.  The importance of ethical considerations in forensic science and law is also emphasized.  Included are discussion of the roles of forensic science at the crime scene, in the laboratory and in the court room.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
*The student will gain an understanding of the interrelationship of forensic science and the law
*The student will become familiar with the principles of forensic investigation and crime scene evidence collection
*The student will gain an appreciation of the ethical issues and constraints that are frequently encountered in the practice of forensic science and the law
