Community Partners
Service at Duquesne
The definition of service-learning at Duquesne University is influenced by our identity as a Catholic University in the Spiritan tradition.
The university seeks to partner in a way that serves the under-served and allows us to live out the principles of Catholic social thought. We work with communities to address issues that affect quality of life for the world's people, animals, or the environment.
Thus, service-learning is defined at Duquesne as a teaching method concerned with providing meaningful contributions to groups that could not otherwise afford such services.
For those classes that carry the UCSL Designation (symbolic of meeting the criteria for service-learning laid out in the University Core Curriculum Document), community partnership is guided by our institutional context and the best practices within the field of service-learning.
