Bio

Dr. Denise Lucas joined the faculty at Duquesne University in 2010. Dr Lucas is a board certified family nurse practitioner with extensive roots in West Virginia, where she continues to live and practice.  She has extensive knowledge and experience with those who are poor and underserved, with a concentration of poor, uninsured women.  Dr. Lucas earned her Master's Degree from Wheeling Jesuit University and her PhD in Nursing from West Virginia University, where she concentrated on rural, poor women.  A large part of her advance practice career has involved care of underserved patients in free clinics and federally qualified health centers. These underpinnings along with Duquesne's mission of serving the underserved are what drew Dr. Lucas to the University.  Dr. Lucas has prior teaching experience at Wheeling Jesuit University, primarily in the MSN program and in 2010 was named "Nurse Practitioner of the Year" by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.  To advance her expertise she has recently completed a funded study examining urban poor women in an urban free clinic.
