Teaching Philosophy: As an educator, I believe that knowledge is something to be jointly constructed between the teacher and the students.  One of my primary tasks is to create a learning context where students can develop competencies and feel encouraged to share and build their knowledge.  I believe education is a social process and students and I are responsible for the learning dynamic that we create in the classroom.  I strive to create an interpersonal climate in the classroom that supports cooperation, scholarly discussion, constructive debate and commitment to every person's learning.

Research

Research interests include examining the process of providing culturally responsive caring, the development and use of occupational therapy practice models, outcomes measurement of community based programming, and the occupational patterns and time and space use of marginalized populations, particularly persons who are or have been homeless and/or incarcerated.
