James Houlik combines a vital performance career with the life of an internationally recognized teacher of the saxophone. A frequent performer in the music capitals of the world, Houlik's recordings have set a new standard for performance on his instrument. More than 85 works have been composed for him, including those that he has recorded with the London Symphony, the North Carolina Symphony, and the Czech Philharmonic. Whether in recital or as soloist with band or orchestra, James Houlik is a leading international performer on his instrument ... "The world's great saxophone virtuoso" - The London Times.

James Houlik is a skilled and accessible teacher whose efforts have been key in the development of several generations of highly successful professional saxophonists. His former students are faculty members at prestigious universities, and they can be found in every phase of professional performance in which the saxophone is commonly involved, including some of America's premier military bands. Houlik is a master teacher who is called upon to teach around the world. In recent years, he has offered master classes in China, Brazil, Portugal, England, Taiwan, and Canada, to mention but a few. His approachable personal style combined with an uncommon mastery of saxophone teaching have identified him as a "go to" teacher for serious saxophone students.
