B.S., Music Education/Double Bass/ Bass Guitar, Duquesne University, 1976Jeff Mangone is a full time player and teacher of string bass, bass guitar, and tuba. He has degrees and studies in music education and music performance from the Duquesne University School of Music in Pittsburgh, Pa. His university teaching credentials include: the University Of Pittsburgh Department of Music-1979 to present, the Duquesne University School of Music-1979 to present, the Slippery Rock University Department of Music-1997 to 2009, the West Virginia University Department of Music-1979 to 1987, and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Department of Music-1990 to 1997. Dozens of his students have gone on to careers in orchestras, jazz groups, touring Broadway musicals, and recording studios all over the United States and the world.
As a player of string bass, bass guitar, and tuba, Jeff Mangone has played virtually every style of music in local, national, and international venues in a professional career that started in 1972. He has played and recorded with countless musicians ranging from Luciano Pavarotti to Sammy Davis, Jr. and Richard Stoltzman to Sonny Stitt. He is currently principal bassist of the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Orchestra, the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, the Music on the Edge Chamber Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Broadway Series Orchestra, the Latshaw Pops Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra. His active jazz career includes concerts, touring, and recording with artists including Catch 22, Ken Karsh, Joe Negri, Opie Bellas, Daphne Alderson, Ann Feeney, Latshaw Productions, Julia Eglar, Richard Stoltzman, Wayne Newton, Vic Damone, and many others.
