Dr. Lockhart is Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Duquesne University School of Nursing. She earned her diploma at Presbyterian-University Hospital School of Nursing and her undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, with a minor in curriculum and supervision from the School of Education. She is an experienced oncology nurse, administrator, and educator and holds certifications in advanced oncology, ENT- head and neck nursing, and nursing education.
Dr. Lockhart has taught at undergraduate and graduate levels and was among the first Duquesne faculty to teach in its 1997 online PhD program. She currently teaches in the online PhD and DNP programs. Her scholarship mirrors her extensive expertise in health promotion (cancer and cardiac), professional development, and nursing education. She assumed a leadership role with colleagues on Nicaraguan initiatives in cancer nursing, curriculum development, and oncology research that resulted in a sustained nurse-led cervical-breast cancer health program. Dr. Lockhart is a fellow in both the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education (ANEF) and has received awards in creative teaching and ethics from Duquesne University and Cameos of Caring from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. She has served as principal investigator for numerous program and research grants from foundations and federal sources.
She is the Associate Editor for the Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing and ORL-Head and Neck Nursing, an Editorial Board member for Nurse Educator, and a reviewer for the International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship. As the former Associate Editor for the Oncology Nursing Forum, she co-created the Leadership and Professional Development feature over a decade ago. She is currently preparing the 2nd edition of her book, Unit-based staff development for clinical nurses (ONS).
