Bio

Executive Director, Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations & PASAE.

Education: Mr. Geiger earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Columbia University's Business School for Not-for-Profit Management. Joe was certified by the American Society of Association Executives as a Certified Association Executive.

Experience: Joe brings more than thirty-one years experience in the fields of education, human resources and nonprofit and association management. Geiger was born and raised in Lancaster County.

Before coming to serve as the Executive Director of PANO in January of 1995 he was a consultant for Organizational Effectiveness Group in Princeton, NJ and Campaign Associates in King of Prussia, PA. He also served as the Executive Director of the Keystone State Head Injury Foundation, various executive positions with the YMCA and a consultant/researcher for the YMCA of the USA, Valley Forge, PA. Mr. Geiger chaired the Ethics Committee for the National Head Injury Foundation State Associations. Joe was a secondary education social studies teacher for eight years.

Geiger has delivered programs on the role of charities in the public policy process, change, feasibility, shared vision, team building, strategic planning and more, to organizations throughout the nonprofit community. He facilitates the Charities Build Communities Coalition, comprised of the 175 charities that forged the passage of Act 55. He is currently serving as a consultant in the area of public policy for the Alliance of YMCAs throughout Pennsylvania.

Joe traveled to Japan in October 2002 as a consultant to the government, business and nonprofit communities to express the value of the nonprofit sector and why government and business should be good partners. The occurrence was provided by the Japanese Exchange Foundation, Center for Global Partnerships. The experience included presentations in 5 cities, site visits to over 30 nonprofit organizations, facilitated discussions in 5 gatherings and a keynote speech at the prefecture-wide symposium. Geiger closed the symposium with a 60 minute discussion with the Governor of the Prefecture in front of an audience of over 150 people interested in nonprofit sector work. The trip was reciprocated in January 2006 when 12 nonprofit executive directors traveled to Pennsylvania.

Joe is currently teaching a graduate class for Duquesne University on Organizational Business Ethics and the Role of Government at Fort Indiantown Gap to the National Guard.

Mr. Geiger has served on the National Standards for Excellence Board, Governor's Rehabilitation Advisory Committee, The Civil Justice Coalition, The Bloomsburg University of PA Alumni Board, Board of Directors for the National Head Injury Foundation, the Big 33 Scholarship Foundation (President), Service Academy Selection Committee for Congressman George Gekas, C3 Publications, The American Trauma Society - PA Division, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital - OVR Project, Penn State University - Rehabilitation Department, Nonprofit Management Risk Retention Group the Harrisburg Area YMCA and the Oakmont V Homeowner's Association Board (President). Geiger is a Past President for the Lower Paxton Township Lion's Club and the DELTA Communities Board.
