Bio

Richard C. Gaffney, Jr. is interim associate dean of administration, assistant professor of clinical legal skills and  director of bar services at Duquesne University School of Law. Before accepting an appointment at Duquesne in 2006, Professor Gaffney practiced law for 15 years with the Aluminum Company of America and private law firms in Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, where he concentrated his practice in commercial transactions, energy law, and employment litigation. Professor Gaffney holds a B.A. in journalism from the Pennsylvania State University (with a minor in nuclear engineering), an M.B.A. in finance, cum laude, from the Duquesne University Graduate School of Business, and a J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served on the University of Pittsburgh Law Review and the Journal of Law and Commerce, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Professor Gaffney teaches first-year Legal Research & Writing, and an upper-level course that prepares students to pass the bar examination, Core Competencies for Legal Practice. He enjoys guitar, piano, and Pittsburgh sports, and lives in Sewickley with his wife and miniature schnauzer, Nola.
