BIO

Professor Cousino has over 30 years of clinical and managerial experience in the both the acute and long term care settings. She holds a Registered Nurse License and continues to be involved in various consulting opportunities within the healthcare industry. She has a strong interest and background in Quality improvement initiatives and evidence based outcomes spanning across the healthcare continuum. In a previous clinical role, she worked with Pittsburgh Regional HealthCare Initiatives Cardiac Care Improvement Registry in analyzing best practices and standards for coronary artery bypass surgery. Professor Cousino also holds a Nursing Home Administrators license and has held executive management positions in Skilled nursing, Assisted Living, and Hospice. While working in the Assisted Living environment, she co-authored a Performance Improvement manual that was utilized by Assisted Living Facilities in four different states.


Professor Cousino has been teaching for 10 years at Duquesne in both undergraduate and graduate courses. Her philosophy of teaching centers on the application of real-life situations to the classroom. In 2014, she, along with other colleagues from Rangos School of Health Sciences, received a Creative Teaching Award for Interprofessional Education.
