I knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field, but deciding on a major was difficult. I got into Duquesne as a Nursing major but soon realized that I didn't want to be on the clinical side. That is when I discovered the Health Management Systems major.
I wanted an education where I could have small classes and where the teachers would know me by name. Having a mix of health science as well as business classes allowed me to broaden my horizons when searching for jobs. Getting the one on one help when needed made me feel more comfortable for exams. Help was always available when I needed it.
I moved to Memphis, TN, and within two weeks I was offered a job as an Information Analyst at Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation. I currently work with HIPAA related occurrences in the Privacy and Security, Risk Management, and Legal Department and I am also studying to get my Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.
