Innovation Meets Litigation: Universities and Patents in the Information Age

As financial pressures reshape the higher education funding model, universities everywhere are looking to strengthen their ties with industry. Increased awareness and protection of patentable intellectual property is often the result, as university technology transfer offices form deeper alliances with regional companies. While these partnerships have the potential to flourish, they can also lead to litigation, as universities team with their licensees in lawsuits against infringers, or even "go it alone" as they seek to enforce their patent rights through litigation. This one-hour CLE will highlight patent, policy and litigation issues and trends involving the industry-academic relationship.

Jacob H. Rooksby, assistant professor of law and IP and higher education scholar, will present the program.
