Modern Languages and Literatures

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Duquesne University provides students with a global education and prepares graduates for productive roles in our rapidly changing world. A variety of courses are offered in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

In small classes with individualized attention, students learn to use language wisely and judiciously as a tool in their interaction with others and to respect the dignity of all women and men. In this way, the programs contribute to building moral character through facilitating encounters with different cultures, traditions, values, virtues and norms.

The Department offers study-abroad opportunities through residence programs in Rome, Italy, and Salamanca, Spain.

A Note of Gratitude

The Department wishes to express thanks for the generous support of the 2016 Duquesne University Human Rights Film Series. The event was made possible through funding from the Dean of the Office of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, and an award from the Office of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.
