Curriculum and Requirements
World Literature minors develop an individual curriculum consistent with their background and interests, and with the program requirements summarized below:
Minor in World Literature: 12 credits
Two World Literature core courses 6 credits
Two electives from any courses in World Literature, Classics, English, or Modern Languages & Literatures 6 credits
Total 12 credits
Although the World Literature program does not require courses in a foreign language, students with the requisite language skills are strongly advised to enhance their programs by electing at least one course in which literature is studied in its original language.
Description of Core Courses
• WDLI 201: The Literature and Culture of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages
A survey of the literature of the ancient world, Greek and Roman traditions, the Bible as literature, ancient literature of other cultures.
• WDLI 202: From the Renaissance to the Enlightenment and the Late 19th Century (1400-1875)
A survey of the literature from the Renaissance to the 18th century Enlightenment and the latter part of the 19th century.
• WDLI 203: Late 19th, 20th and 21st Century Literature (1875-Present)
A survey of literature from the end of the 19th century to the present.
