Practice Rooms and Rehearsal Space
Music students at the Mary Pappert School of Music enjoy access to over 60 practice/rehearsal spaces throughout the building. These spaces equipped with amenities including Steinway pianos, full-length mirrors, and music stands. Large ensemble rooms and classrooms are also available for student use by request.
Triano Woodwind Suite
In October 2008, the Anthony F. Triano Woodwind Suite was dedicated on the third floor of the Mary Pappert School of Music, consisting of teaching studios for flute, clarinet, and double reeds. Larger than many other practice rooms, these rooms can accommodate anything from solo practice through small group rehearsals.
Triano, who had performed with the Hollywood Orchestra, left resources in his estate for providing scholarships and enhancements for woodwind students, as well as updating teaching facilities.
Matty and Eddie Shiner Practice Rooms
A suite of acoustically-enhanced practice rooms on the lowest level of the Mary Pappert School of Music provides quality practice and rehearsal space for individuals and small ensembles. These rooms are larger than other practice rooms elsewhere in the music school and are equipped with Steinway upright pianos.
These rooms were renovated through the generous gifts of donors who wished to preserve the memory of Matty and Eddie Shiner, renowned trumpet and trombone artists who taught thousands of Duquesne brass students over their years of service.
Piano Major Practice Rooms
Applied piano majors are granted access to a suite of practice rooms equipped with Steinway baby grand pianos. In addition, one fo the piano major practice rooms includes two pianos.
The piano practice rooms often double as rehearsal spaces for accompanied instrumental or vocal works. Staff accompanists and students in the collaborative piano program often use these spaces to prepare for student recitals.
