Learn and Perform in State-of-the-Art Facilities

The Mary Pappert School of Music is housed in a 4 story building on the main campus of Duquesne University. The school is in close proximity to dormitories, parking facilities, dining facilities and the Gumberg Library/Mary Jane Schulz Music Library. Acoustically treated classrooms with high ceilings provide an aesthetically pleasing environment for experiencing and studying music. Classrooms are equipped with grand pianos, audio-visual systems and comfortable seating. The 250 seat PNC recital hall is suited for both traditional and cutting-edge musical performance with 2 Steinway concert grand pianos, a harpsichord, theatrical lighting system and a multi-media AV system with 5.1 surround sound. Three student lounge areas and a vending/dining/study area provide an atmosphere for socializing, discussing class assignments and grabbing a quick snack between rehearsals. There are three recording studios, a music technology lab and a keyboard/computer lab which can be accessed with a swipe of the student’s ID card. Lockers are available in the building for students to store instruments and personal belongings. For security, a system of surveillance cameras is located inside and outside of the building. Music students have access to the building from 6:00am until 1:00am seven days a week.

As you practice your craft, you'll rehearse and perform in top-notch facilities, such as Dr. Thomas D. Pappert Center for Performance and Innovation. In addition, the Mary Pappert School of Music is now counted among a select group of music schools designated as "All-Steinway Schools." Our 68 Steinway pianos are part of our performance halls and rehearsal rooms, as well as the teaching and practice studios.
