Choral Ensembles

The Mary Pappert School of Music is home to four separate choral ensembles - The Voices of Spirit, Pappert Men's Chorale, Pappert Women's Chorale, and University Singers. These ensembles perform individually, as well as combined for larger-scale works.

Voices of Spirit

VOICES OF SPIRIT: MUEN 143 (0-1 credit)

Voices of Spirit is a mixed chamber/touring choir dedicated to the study and performance of choral music at an exceptional collegiate level. Each semester, the choir performs several on- and off-campus concerts, including solo concerts and/or touring, large-scale performances with the Pappert Chorales and University Singers, and collaborations with Duquesne University instrumental ensembles. Voices of Spirit is open to students in all academic majors with excellent reading skills who want a challenging choral experience. Admission is by competitive audition.

Pappert Chorales

PAPPERT MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CHORALES: MUEN 139-01, 139-02 (0-1 credit) conductor

The Pappert Chorale (Men's and Women's) is a mixed symphonic choir dedicated to the study and performance of choral music at a challenging collegiate level. Each year, the Pappert Chorale performs separately and together in several large-scale performances (including collaborations with the Voices of Spirit and University Singers), Mary Pappert School of Music events, high school visits, and regional choral festivals. The Pappert Women's and Men's Chorales are open to music majors by voice-placement audition. Open to non-music majors with prior choral experience by audition.

University Singers

UNIVERSITY SINGERS: MUEN 141(1 credit)

Duquesne newest choral ensemble, the University Singers, is an all-campus mixed choir open to students in all majors, DU alumni, DU faculty and staff, and area community members with prior choral experience, or a love of singing. Each semester, the University Singers perform one large-scale performance with the Voices of Spirit and Pappert Chorales.

Music students may sing in the University Singers, but as a secondary ensemble only.

Undergraduate/Graduate Students:
Register for MUEN 141 (1 credit)
No required audition
University Singers fulfills the Creative Arts Theme Area requirement

Alumni, Faculty, Staff, Community Members:
A basic vocal audition is required (see below)
$75 participation fee per semester
