Duquesne University and Giant Eagle Pharmacy Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Community Practice Residency
The purpose of the Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy/Giant Eagle Pharmacy PGY1 Community Practice Residency Program is to prepare the resident for a career as a leader in clinical and community pharmacy practice, in corporate pharmacy-level management, or as a school of pharmacy adjunct faculty member. To achieve this goal, the resident will receive a variety of patient-centered practice experiences to aid in the growth of their knowledge of clinical pharmacy services, disease state management, and corporate-level pharmacy management. The program is designed to utilize the strengths and resources of a chain drug store, a university, and a corporate pharmacy setting which all share a common mission to promote the health and wellness of the community and to enhance pharmacy practice.
The residency program is based at select Giant Eagle Pharmacy locations around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and at Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy. The community practice resident will gain clinical experiences in programs such as medication therapy management (MTM) services, diabetes education, vaccine administration, and health screenings. In addition, the resident will have the opportunity to learn about pharmacy practice administration on the corporate level and about the design and implementation of various clinical programs.
Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy provides the resident experiences in developing teaching and research skills necessary to serve as an educator and preceptor of student pharmacists. A teaching certificate is an optional component for completion during the residency.
