Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy and Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy
Community Pharmacy Practice Residency Program with a Focus in Specialty Pharmacy (PGY1): Pittsburgh, PA
The goal of the Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy and Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy PGY1 Community Pharmacy Practice Residency with a focus in Specialty Pharmacy is to provide pharmacy residents with opportunities to develop the fundamental skills necessary to excel in the specialty pharmacy environment.
The residency program is based at Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy located in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. This premier specialty pharmacy location offers a variety of patient care services to support patents who are managing chronic life-threatening or rare conditions, including cancer, Crohn's disease, growth hormone disorders, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis, among others. The clinical pharmacists at this site work closely with health care professionals, patient care coordinators, insurance advo- cates and patients to meet the needs of the patient's medication therapy. In addition, residents will gain insights on the pharmacy practice management issues that can affect the delivery of care for patients taking specialty medications.
The residency is offered in partnership with Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy. This partnership allows the resident the opportunity to also gain experiences in health and wellness services and develop the academic skills necessary to serve as an educator and preceptor. As part of this residency program, the resident will actively participate in educating Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy staff and some instructing of University students.
