Accepted Students

Once you receive your acceptance letter, follow these steps to prepare for your arrival.

STEP 1:   Get Your Questions Answered

RESEARCH

o Read through your acceptance packet
o Look at our International Life page
o Look at the Life at Duquesne page
o Explore the Student Organizations 
o Learn about the City of Pittsburgh
o Read the Student Guide to Pittsburgh

CONNECT WITH STUDENTS

o Talk with your Cultural Ambassador, a current student that you are paired with via email upon your acceptance. 
o Join these social media groups:

ASK QUESTIONS

o To your Cultural Ambassadors
o To the Office of International Programs 

STEP 2: Confirm Your Attendance

Undergraduate, ESL, and Exchange Students: Pay the $500 deposit to confirm your attendance and sign

Graduate Students:  Follow the confirmation steps in your acceptance letter and submit the graduate deposit and any forms that were sent to you.

THE FOLLOWING STEPS CAN BE DONE AT THE SAME TIME

STEP 3:   Setup Your Multipass

Receive Your Immigration Documents

o Follow this link to setup your Multipass
o You will need your temporary Social Security number (SSN) and zip code. Both are in your acceptance letter.  

o Look for your acceptance letter in the mail
o Read and decide how to receive your immigration packet in the mail
o Read the immigration information page

STEP 4:   Register For Housing       

Pay Your SEVIS Fee

o Complete the online housing survey.

o You must visit your Embassy or Consulate to determine the SEVIS Fee
o You must also pay a SEVIS fee of $200 (F-1 visa) or, $180 (J-1 visa) at www.fmjfee.com with a valid credit card and a receipt can be printed once the transaction is completed. (Some countries in Africa are unable to use www.fmjfee.com and must apply through the mail for the SEVIS fee receipt).

STEP 5:   Submit Health Records 

Apply For A U.S. VISA

o Read the International Student Health Requirements page
o
Upload the required documents through the Health Service student portal. Instruction can be found here.

o Make an appointment with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your area for a visa interview. You must complete an application for a visa and pay a fee determined by your local Embassy or Consulate.
o Read STEP 1 of the Your Next Steps brochure that was sent to you in your acceptance packet. 

PREPARE FOR YOUR ARRIVAL

STEP 6: Book Your Flight

o Please check the DATE(s) of the MANDATORY INTERNATIONAL ORIENTATION for your semester and purchase your flight with these dates in mind. 

STEP 7: Decide How To Get To Campus

o Visit our Airport Transportation page to learn about the various options on how to get from the airport to campus.

STEP 8: Decide Where To Stay If You Arrive Before Housing Is Available

o Read the Accommodation Options page to learn about on-campus and off-campus housing. 
o Read the International Student Arrival Dates and Temporary Housing Notification page to learn about temporary housing for the fall semester only.

ON-CAMPUS

o If you are living on-campus there are specific dates when you can arrive to live on-campus
o Please made note of those dates
