Sara Wojciechowski, Nurse, UPMC Hamot Hospital
Sara Wojciechowski knew she wanted to be a nurse, but wasn't sure where she wanted to attend college.
"I wanted a place where professors would know me by name and where I would get real-life experience. I also wanted to be in a city where there were things to do," Sara explains.
After visiting several universities, she says she chose Duquesne's School of Nursing because of the sophistication of the simulation lab and the warm welcome she received when she visited campus.
"From the very beginning I was impressed by the friendliness of the nursing school faculty and staff. They genuinely wanted to make sure DU was the right fit for me. That personal attention continued throughout my four years.
"The program is really hands-on. Not only is the sim lab state-of-art, I was in multiple community and hospital clinical settings that gave me skills that I believe set me apart from other job candidates," she says.
That experience paid off-she was offered a job in the intensive care unit of UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie before she graduated in May 2011.
"I couldn't believe I was hired before graduation. I love my job. And I'm still in touch with the friends I made at DU."
