Paralegal Students
Welcome to the Paralegal Institute information page. I am Pam Bailey, program coordinator.
The Paralegal Institute is a post-baccalaureate certificate program. Our students have completed an undergraduate degree at the time of admission to the Institute. The Institute has been a part of the Duquesne community since 1984 and has been approved continuously by the American Bar Association since 1989. Over the course of its existence, it has graduated over 1800 paralegals.
The Institute offers a variety of skills-based options. Although primarily an evening program, it does offer a full-time summer day program each year. During the regular academic year, we offer evening courses four (4) nights a week Monday through Thursday, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Each course is offered one night a week. Our terms are eleven (11) weeks in length which affords an opportunity to complete three (3) terms each academic year (September to mid June).
Students must complete five (5) core courses and may earn one of the following certificates: general practice, civil litigation concentration, corporate and business concentration, estates practice concentration and litigation technology concentration.
Our faculty is composed primarily of practitioners who are attorneys or non-lawyers all of whom work in the areas in which they teach.
Once students are in the program, several scholarships are available both from the Institute and from outside sources. The Institute also has a chapter of Lambda Epsilon Chi (LEX), National Paralegal Honor Society. Each fall the Institute holds its Graduate and Awards Reception during which we present the Genevieve A. Mealy Scholarship and induct eligible students and graduates into our LEX chapter.
Outside paralegal placements firms consistently assure us that Duquesne University Paralegal Institute graduates are the candidates of choice of the legal community. Many of our graduates go on to law school and other graduate programs.
Please stop by our offices in the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement, 216 Rockwell Hall, for more information. You may also call us at 412-396-1643 or email me at bailey@duq.edu or Ginny Zaccari at zaccariv@duq.edu.
If you are looking for a career, the Paralegal Institute may be what you are seeking.
Thank you!
