Transferring to Liberal Arts
Application Components
Complete and submit the attached application form if you want to transfer from your current school at Duquesne to the McAnulty College of Liberal Arts. A complete application consists of this form and an internal transfer form from your current academic advisor. Contact your current advisor to get this form, and deliver it to the College Office.
GPA Requirement
The minimum cumulative GPA expected to transfer into the College is 2.0. However, a student with less than a 2.0 GPA may be admitted upon recommendation of the College’s Student Standing Committee. To request this consideration submit your application and also deliver a letter requesting such an exception to the office of the dean, in 210 College Hall.
Deadlines
The College grants admission on a rolling basis, except that the College will not consider internal transfer applications nor admit internal transfer students during the three-week period consisting of the two working weeks before and the first week of each semester.
Major
As part of your application you will be asked to declare your intended major field of study in the College. The links on the right-hand side of this page will lead you to information about the major fields you can study in the College.
Language Placement Examination
If you have taken French, German, Italian, or Spanish in high school you must record your language placement examination score(s) on the application form before the College will consider your application. If you have not taken the examination(s) you can make arrangements to do so by calling the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at 412-396-6415. The examination takes less than half an hour to complete (except for Italian, which takes about an hour).
Essay
The application form includes an essay in which you should explain:
- what, specifically, you want to study in the College
- how you hope that your studies in the College will help you achieve your personal and professional goals, and
- the interests, strengths and accomplishments you would bring to your studies in the College
Next Semester's Schedule
Since you are still a student in your current school you will register for next semester with your current academic advisor. However, if you are accepted into Liberal Arts for next semester your new advisor in Liberal Arts will work with your current advisor to help you plan a proper schedule.
Help
If you need help with the transfer process you may contact the College Office to arrange to speak with one of the College’s academic advisors.
