Staff Professional Development Program Mission
We are pleased to offer a cohort style training program for full-time, University administrative support employees.
We believe the opportunity and value of professional development programs should be extended to all staff with responsibilities in a support role at Duquesne University. The Staff Professional Development Program is designed to offer professional development opportunities to support employees through increased knowledge of campus policies, procedures, programs, enhanced customer service and communication skills, as well as time management and organizational skills. This program will be looked at as favorable on certain job descriptions.
Program Mission
To enhance and sustain the Duquesne University Administrative Support Workforce’ professional growth in technology, university procedures and administrative support skills, through planned learning opportunities with equitable access, and in support of the University Mission and goals.
Outcomes
The Staff Professional Development Program will assist employees in generating new ways of thinking about achieving goals in today’s workplace. Our support staff employees serve in a range of positions, from those that primarily deal with employees inside the University, to more public roles featuring high levels of interaction with students, parents, alumni, or other members of the Duquesne community. Therefore, professional development for support staff can strengthen Duquesne University’s internal efficiency as well as its relations with external constituencies. Further, individuals learn best when new concepts are integrated into their actual work experiences. The program is designed so that support employees can “learn, practice and apply” new skills and approaches to work -- all in an effort to support the five pillars of the University Mission.
Program Design
The program consists of seven comprehensive sessions designed to provide practical knowledge, as well as awareness and skill building to create a positive working environment. The seven sessions are offered within a cohort. Enrollment will be limited to 20 participants for each cohort. The cohort style arrangement will allow participants to build a network of support, gain knowledge of other areas of the University and develop camaraderie and a spirit of collaboration. All sessions will be scheduled for seven half-days in order to accommodate work schedules, and participants must commit to attending all seven sessions. A certificate will be issued upon completion of all sessions in the program.
Pricing And Registration
There will be a fee for participation in the program that will cover the cost of the presenters and materials provided. This is similar to the fee structure for the managerial series, "Foundations of Successful Leadership". A Banner budget number for the fee will be requested at the time of registration. Please read the complete Registration instructions. The fee for the seven-week program is expected to be about $230.00 per person.
Make-up Sessions
If any session is missed, there is a one-year time frame to make up the missing session. Participants are required to verify their missed sessions through the DU Training Tracker, then register for that session in the next cohort offered.
