GPSC Meetings and Events

Upcoming Meetings

The GPSC meets monthly during the academic year.  Food (pizza, tacos or hoagies) and beverages are provided for all meetings.  Email reminders will be sent one week prior to each general meeting.  You can check the GPSC Blackboard site or this page for upcoming meeting dates and times.

Please see the schedule of General Council meetings below.  If you are unable to attend a meeting, you can view all meeting minutes on the GPSC Blackboard site.  We encourage you to share your comments, ideas and concerns!  You can email GPSC at any time at gpsc@duq.edu.

  • Health insurance coverage for graduate students
  • Tax Exemption
  • Bus passes for all students
  • Campus parking availability
  • Graduate student research symposium
  • GPSC representatives from all departments
  • Choosing GPSC representatives to serve on several university committees

Academic Career Path Workshop

The Academic Career Path Workshop was held on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 to discuss the process of being hired, tenure, and other concerns in the industry of the academic university. 

Community Service Event

GPSC volunteers worked at the Habitat for Humanity Store in Edgewood on Saturday, January 21, 2012.  Their duties included moving items, taking inventory, pricing and cleaning. 

Penguins Themed Homecoming Raffle

The GPSC held a Penguins-themed homecoming raffle with the drawing held on October 1, 2011.

  • 1st Prize:  2 tickets to the December 17th game against the Buffalo Sabres (Winner - Darlene Monlish)
  • 2nd Prize:  Throwback Lemieux jersey (Winner - Jane Cavanaugh)
  • 3rd Prize:  iPod Shuffle (Winner - Bryan Small)

Penguins Raffle Brochure

Graduate and Professional Student Resource Fair

A first-ever Graduate and Professional Student Resource Fair was  held on  Monday, August 8, 2011 from 9 am to noon on the Mellon Hall patio.  All students who pre-registered had the opportunity to win an iPod.

Health Service Seminar

The Health Service Seminar was held on Tuesday, April 12 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. to provide students with the various opportunities offered by Duquesne's Health Service that can help them save money!

Financial Planning Seminar
The Personal Finance Seminar was held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 9:30-11:30 am in Bayer Hall Atrium and Pappert Lecture Hall. Continental Breakfast was generously provided by the Office of Alumni Relations!

Graduate Student Social
The first annual Graduate Student Social was held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 4:30-6:00pm in 613 Student Union.  Students networked with one another and the executive board members briefly introduced themselves and the mission of the organization. Delicious food and drinks were generously donated by Aramark and Dean Seybert of the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences!
