Career Discovery Day

Duquesne University Career Discovery Day, a job shadow type experience, is designed to provide small groups of 5-15 students, from varying majors and interests, with the chance to visit your workplace. This day allows our students to not only engage with your company or organization, but to plant the seeds for a potential professional relationship.

A typical Career Discovery Day takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and may include:

  • A general information session about your company or organization
  • Discussion panels led by upper management to entry-level positions, including discussions by Duquesne alumni (if possible) or short individual presentations
  • A tour of your work environment or one-on-one interactions
  • Workshops and skill-building activities
  • Job and internship advice for students
Sample Agenda

10-11 a.m.        Welcome and Introduction; Company history and overview

11 a.m. - Noon  Panel Presentations: Department specific experiences with the company

Noon - 1 p.m.    Lunch and Networking; Students join team members for lunch

1-1:45 p.m.         Workshop or Activity: Resume review, mock interview or professional development

1:45-2 p.m.        Closing Remarks, Goals for the future, Conclusion of the day

Participating companies and organizations

You will be asked to indicate:

  • Which session works best for you:
        Half day: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. OR 9 a.m. - noon
        Full Day: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Your preference for major and student status (freshman, sophomore, junior or senior)
  • The number of students you can comfortably accommodate
  • Dress code requirements
  • If your company will provide a snack or lunch for students
  • Prior to the confirmed Career Discovery Day, submit an agenda
  • Provide a contact person
