Q: When can my daughter/son first visit the Career Services Center?
A: Anytime! We see freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, as well as graduate students. They should call 412.396.6644, visit our office during walk-in advising times, or make an appointment with the appropriate Career Counselor.
Q: I have some concerns regarding my daughter's choice of career. If I have questions, may I contact a career counselor as well?
A: Absolutely! We'll be happy to speak with you and answer your questions as best as we can. Most parents are concerned with career outlook and salary, and we understand your concern.
Q: How will Career Services help my son/daughter find a job?
A: Career Services will assist your son/daughter in all aspects of their job search. We begin their training with student development programs, including career counseling, resume writing workshops, mock interviews, and other career-related programs. Students should begin utilizing DuqConnection, our online career management system, to view job opportunities for part-time, seasonal, internship and full-time work.
Q: How can my son find the careers available to him in his major?
A: Students may visit the Career Resource Library in Rockwell Hall to research career options. They may also visit our majors and careers web pages to begin the exploration process. Career Counselors are available to help get them started.
Q: My daughter needs to earn some extra money during the school year and/or summer. How can Career Services help them find employment?
A: Students need to register on DuqConnection, our online system, and then view the part-time and summer jobs. Most companies prefer that resumes be sent through DuqConnection or via email however instructions to apply are included in the job postings.
