GPS - Guide to Professional Success
What’s your destination? The Guide to Professional Success (GPS) is a tool developed by Career Services to help you plan and track your career and professional development path throughout the time you are at Duquesne University. The four steps are:
- Explore Majors and Careers
- Develop Professional and Job Search Skills
- Experience Career-related Activities
- Pursue Professional Jobs or Advanced Degrees
Each step represents a distinct set of tasks and actions to consider and determine which are right for you. The steps tend to follow each other sequentially, but may overlap depending on your unique situation.
You may want to print the GPS and tack it above your desk. At the start of each semester decide which tasks you plan to accomplish and check off each action as you complete it. Some tasks (e.g., Job and Internship Fair; meeting with your career counselor; doing internships) may be done multiple times.
Use the GPS as your guide to professional success. Start taking action early, ideally in your freshman year. However, no matter what year you are in, it is time to map your future! Your career counselor and all of the staff in Career Services are eager to support you through your journey.
