Built by Gifts. Sustained by Gifts.
The Spiritans who founded Duquesne University had few tangible assets. But they had an abundance of faith and a wealth of determination. Endowed only with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, they set out to liberate the children of immigrants from poverty through education.
More than 130 years later, their institution has become one of America's great Catholic universities. The precious legacy of our past remains the core of our mission and identity. But our blessings are now multiplied by the generosity of alumni, parents, friends, faculty and staff.
Tuition and fees never fully covered the cost of a Duquesne degree. Today, they only account for 73 percent of the expenses incurred in providing our distinctive education for the mind, heart and spirit. Most of the rest comes from gifts ranging in size from a few dollars to millions.
Every gift - for any purpose and in any amount - makes a difference. The combined total of annual gifts - many of $1,000 or less - exceeds the return that would be generated by an additional $60 million in endowment, while leadership gifts to establish or augment endowed funds ensure perpetual impact.
Your gifts directly benefit students while elevating the University's reputation. Alumni giving participation is factored into an institution's placement in national rankings. As more graduates give, and Duquesne's rating rises, the professional and personal value of your degree increases.
What's more, strong support from established constituencies-those who have already been touched by Duquesne-encourages new individuals and organizations to invest as well.
