Duquesne’s Center for Pharmacy Care to Give Free Pneumonia Shots
Every Friday in June, free pneumonia vaccines will be available to the public at the Duquesne University Center for Pharmacy Care.
The vaccine, which can cost up to $75, is free from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to community members who schedule an appointment. Those who are vaccinated also will receive a $15 voucher for a prescription to be filled at the Center for Pharmacy Services, the new Duquesne pharmacy in the Hill District.
Pneumonia vaccines are generally recommended for adults over age 65 but can be given to those younger who have asthma, diabetes, heart and lung diseases or other chronic conditions.
A grant from the Allegheny County Health Department is providing up to 100 vaccines, and Duquesne is donating the staff and other supplies for the clinic.
