Dean, Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences
Duquesne University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences. We seek a Dean capable of providing academic and administrative leadership to a growing and vital School of Natural and Environmental Sciences. The academic departments/programs in the School are Biological Sciences, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Physics, Forensic Science and Law Program, Center for Environmental Research and Education as well as the Master of Science in Biotechnology.
The Dean is the chief academic officer of the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences and reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Dean assures the quality of all academic programs through direction of programmatic chairs and 40 full-time faculty, is responsible for organizational planning and development, and participates as one of ten deans in policy formation for the University. The Dean is also responsible for fund-raising, budgeting, faculty recruitment, evaluation, and curriculum planning and development.
Candidates for the position should be successful scholars and teachers who are experienced in academic administration and leadership. Candidates will possess an understanding of the academic process and be committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship. In addition, candidates will be committed to the University's Catholic mission and be able to lead the School to fulfill the mission. Candidates will also have a working knowledge of the corresponding professions related to the natural and environmental sciences represented in the School. Finally, it is expected that the successful candidate will be an excellent communicator and will have a commitment to continuing the collegial spirit of the School.
