‘Shark Tank’-Style Pitch Event to Make a Splash at Duquesne
The entrepreneurship program in Duquesne University's Palumbo-Donahue School of Business again will co-sponsor and host the MIT Enterprise Forum-Pittsburgh's fast-paced elevator pitch event on Tuesday, April 26.
From 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Wolfe Lecture Hall of Bayer Learning Center, student and other entrepreneurs can get feedback on their ideas and presentations from a panel of savvy local investors. Networking will take place in the Bayer rotunda before and after pitches.
Individuals or teams all will participate in the first round with their 90-second elevator pitches. After the initial round, the panel will offer general feedback on the makings of a successful pitch. Audience voting will determine which three participants advance to the final round, which will include 5-minute presentations with slides. The panel will provide these three with detailed feedback.
"The art of the 90-second elevator pitch is critical for entrepreneurs," said Dr. Jack Mason, director of Duquesne's entrepreneurial studies program and an MIT alumnus. "Participants will have the opportunity to get some exposure for their businesses and feedback from a panel of startup incubator and investor executives. Everyone attending will have the opportunity to learn from and network with key participants in Pittsburgh's vibrant startup community."
This year's panel members are:
- Nehal Bhojak, director of innovation, Idea Foundry
- Ilana Diamond, managing director, AlphaLab Gear
- Stephan Mueller, chief operating officer, Thrill Mill
- Mel Pirchesky, president, Eagle Ventures Inc.
Prizes include a $500 cash award provided by sponsors BPU Investment Group Inc. and Dollar Bank. In-kind legal and consulting services will be provided by Cherin Law Offices P.C. and Five Star Development Inc.
Registration is required to attend the event, which is free for Duquesne students and MIT Enterprise forum members, and discounted for students, MIT alumni and members of the Center for Women's Entrepreneurship.
