Dr. Laverna Saunders, President-Elect of the Duquesne University Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, congratulates Patrick O’Malley, a senior in the McAnulty College of Liberal Arts, on winning the chapter level Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Award. Patrick received $500 and is the chapter nominee for the national level Phi Kappa Phi Fellowships. Every year Phi Kappa Phi awards fifty-seven $5,000 awards and three $15,000 awards to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Each Phi Kappa Phi chapter may select one candidate from among its local applicants to compete for the Society-wide awards. Patrick, a dual political science and philosophy major at Duquesne, will be entering law school at the University of Virginia in the fall.
Dr. Laverna Saunders congratulates Kimberly Adams, a senior in the Rangos School of Health Sciences, on receiving honorable mention for the chapter level Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Award. Kimberly received $200 and will continue with the graduate portion of the Physician Assistant program here at Duquesne following graduation. Both Kimberly and Patrick were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi in 2010 as juniors in the top 7.5% of their respective schools.
Read! Literacy Celebration!
September 8, 2010: Members of the Duquesne University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, School of Education faculty and students, and Gumberg Library staffchapter celebrated International Literacy Day by reading with children from neighborhood daycare centers.
This special event was the kick-off for the Literacy grant received by Duquesne University's Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Books purchased with the grant will augment the resources on the Beginning With Books Storymobiles, helping children in Pittsburgh's underserved neighborhoods.
