The Onyx Woman Network has named Crystal McCormick Ware, chief diversity officer and senior advisor to the president for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), its 2024 Woman of the Year.

McCormick Ware was selected from a group of esteemed nominees based on her leadership and innovation in DEI, dedication to higher education in Pittsburgh, ability to empower other women and her community involvement. She will be honored at the Onyx Woman Leadership Awards on Friday, May 10.

McCormick Ware is proud to walk alongside the Duquesne University and Pittsburgh communities to help create a future everyone can share.

“To be recognized as a leader in the region by fellow leaders who contribute so much to their respective communities is humbling,” said McCormick Ware. “The work that I do in the community is a labor of love and in honor of my late mother, Lois Twyman McCormick, who always taught us to fight for those who were treated unjustly.”

Founded in 1991, the Onyx Woman Network began as a career, entrepreneurial and financial platform for Black women. The organization has continued to grow by developing innovative ways to create content that spotlights women who make a difference.
