Biography
Dr. Bahaa Shaaban is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies with a multifaceted background in clinical medicine, surgical practice, and basic science and clinical research. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Alexandria School of Medicine in Egypt, followed by a Master of Science (MCh) in General Surgery from Ain Shams University in Cairo. Driven by his passion for bridging medical practice with administrative expertise and solid understanding of the governing laws, Dr. Shaaban further pursued a Master of Science (MS) in Health Services Administration and a Master of Arts (MA) in Employment and Labor Relations from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Shaaban began his clinical career in Egypt, gaining extensive experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery, general surgery, and emergency medicine. Alongside his clinical work, he contributed to medical education initiatives, including developing interactive and virtual medical applications and playing a key role in establishing the foundation for the American Heart Association and European Resuscitation Council in Egypt. His academic journey led him to the University of Pittsburgh, where he contributed to groundbreaking research at the Adipose Stem Cell Center and the Center for Innovation focusing on regenerative medicine, adipose-derived stem cell applications, fat grafting, chronic wound healing, and burn reconstruction.
In 2024, Dr. Shaaban joined Duquesne University as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, where he combines his clinical expertise and research experience to educate and mentor future healthcare professionals. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Plastic Surgery Research Council, the International Federation for Adipose Therapeutics and Science, and Physician Assistant Education Association. Dr. Shaaban's work has been published in esteemed journals such as Plastic and Aesthetic Research, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Stem Cells and Development, and presented at leading national and international conferences.
