Biography

Dan Parasky is a dedicated flutist with a profound commitment to music education. In September 1999, he established The Parasky Flute Studios, a venture that fostered numerous prizewinners and finalists in national, regional, and local competitions. Students from his studio have participated in international tours with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra (TRYPO). Mr. Parasky also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Duquesne University.

As a sought-after clinician, Mr. Parasky has presented at esteemed events such as the National Flute Convention, the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, and the International Low Flutes Festival, as well as at colleges and universities throughout the United States. His educational clinics encompass pedagogical approaches, flute choir repertoire and techniques, the entrepreneurial aspects of managing a private music studio, and performance-focused masterclasses.

An active performer, Mr. Parasky, engages as a soloist, chamber musician, and guest conductor. A passionate advocate for contemporary music, he has commissioned over ten new works, leading to their world premiere performances. He co-founded the PM Woodwind Project, a flute and clarinet duo, and has performed with the National Flute Association (NFA) Professional Flute Choir, the International Low Flute Festival Professional Flute Choir, and as a guest soloist with the TRYPO Wind Ensemble. Mr. Parasky has collaborated with internationally renowned musicians including Lucinda Williams, Warren Haynes, Gareth McLearnon, Kelly Zimba Lukić, Megan Ensor, Cobus du Toit, Bart Feller, Cassandra Eisenreich, and Naomi Seidman. His guest conducting engagements include the Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir in 2014, 2019, 2021, 2022 & 2027, the NFA Virtual High School Flute Choir in 2021, and the NFA combined High School/Collegiate Flute Orchestra in 2022. During his tenure as the Convention Flute Choir Coordinator for the NFA’s annual conventions from 2021 to 2025, he initiated and significantly expanded the NFA Flute Ensemble Festival.

Mr. Parasky holds a Master of Music in Music Education from Boston University and an undergraduate degree in Music Performance  from Duquesne University. He resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Jackie, and enjoys lifting, gaming, and exploring various aspects of "nerd culture." A Wm. S. Haynes Artist, Mr. Parasky performs on a custom-designed 10k/14k gold flute featuring a 14k N-cut head joint with a platinum riser, a 10k gold body with silver mechanism, split E and C# trill key, and 14k gold ribs, posts, and D# roller. He also performs on alto flute and piccolo from the Haynes-Amadeus line.
