Biography

Dr. Dean McFarlin joined Duquesne University as Dean of the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business Administration on July 1, 2013.  Now in his 4th term as Dean, McFarlin has led efforts to fully renovate Rockwell Hall, develop and implement three strategic plans, and enhance alumni and corporate engagement.

Along the way, he has set fundraising records for the School, instituted an Executive-in-Residence Program, launched the Duquesne New Venture Challenge (a national entrepreneurship competition), diversified the faculty, created several new advisory councils, and established eight centers of excellence to support innovative research and applied educational experiences for students in every area from investment strategy to professional selling.  

Prior to Duquesne, McFarlin ran a top 25-ranked entrepreneurship program at the University of Dayton in his role as the Chair of the Management and Marketing Department while also serving as the NCR Professor of Global Leadership Development.

Before Dayton, McFarlin spent 13 years at Marquette University as a management professor. McFarlin has written several books and has over 100 publications and conference presentations--his research interests include cross-cultural management, organizational justice, leadership, and executive influence processes.
