Biography
Dr. Lockhart is Professor Emerita at Duquesne University School of Nursing and teaches in the MSN Nursing Education and PhD Programs, She earned her diploma at Presbyterian-University Hospital School of Nursing and her undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, with a minor in curriculum and supervision from the School of Education. She is an experienced oncology nurse, leader, scholar and educator and is certified in nursing education. She has served in various academic leadership positions during her tenure at Duquesne, including Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for more than a decade.
Prior to her retirement in May 2022, she was a tenured Professor who has taught at all undergraduate and graduate levels and was among the first Duquesne faculty to teach in its 1997 online PhD program. She currently teaches in the online PhD and MSN Nursing Education programs. Her scholarship mirrors her extensive expertise in oncology nursing, vulnerable populations, professional development, and nursing education. She assumed a leadership role with colleagues on Nicaraguan initiatives in cancer nursing, curriculum development and oncology research that resulted in a sustained nurse-led cervical-breast cancer health program. Dr. Lockhart is a fellow in both the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education (ANEF) and has received awards in innovative, creative teaching and ethics from Duquesne University and Cameos of Caring from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. She has served as principal investigator for numerous program and research grants from foundations and federal sources.
She is the Deputy Editor for the Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing, Associate Editor for ORL-Head and Neck Nursing, an Editorial Board member for Nurse Educator, and a reviewer for several other peer reviewed journals. As the former Associate Editor for the Oncology Nursing Forum, she co-created the Leadership and Professional Development feature over a decade ago. Dr. Lockhart published her book with the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS, 2016),Nursing professional development for clinical educators.
