Biography
is the Sr. Manager, Academic Quality and Assessment, on the national pre-licensure nursing team at Chamberlain University. Dr. Flynn has over 23 years of combined nursing experiences in emergency care, nursing education, and administration, including 20 years as a forensic nurse examiner.
Dr. Flynn is board certified as a nurse educator, adult/adolescent and pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), and medicolegal death investigator. She received a BS in Nursing from The University of Akron, holds a MS in Nursing degree with a Forensic Nursing focus, and a PhD in Nursing from Duquesne University. Her research focuses on health-related quality of life, health outcomes, and health care experiences in response to sexual violence.
She was appointed to the National Institute of Justice Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Reporting (SAFER) Act Working Group (2017) in the development of national best practice policies in the sexual assault case report, National Best Practices in Sexual Assault Kits: A Multidisciplinary Approach. Other forensic nursing contributions include A Safer Campus: A Guidebook on Prevention and Response to Sexual and Intimate Partner Violence and Stalking for Ohio Campuses, Ohio Child and Adolescent Sexual Abuse Protocol, Ohio Protocol for Adult/Adolescent Medical and Forensic Sexual Assault Evaluations and authored Sexual Assault chapter in Varcarolis’ Foundations of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing textbooks. She is co-developer of the Adult/Adolescent SANE Online Training Program at Duquesne University, and training on Human Trafficking and Sexual Assault in collaboration with Hope for Justice, for the U.S. Departments of State.
Dr. Flynn has served in a variety of leadership roles with the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN), from Ohio Chapter President to Director-At-Large on the Board of Directors. In 2023, she was inducted as an Associate Member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), as serves a Chair of the Regional Committee in the Forensic Nursing Sciences section.
