Biography

John C. Kern II completed a B.S. at Bucknell University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Statistics and Decision Sciences at Duke University. He has previously served as a visiting researcher at a Department of Energy National Laboratory, as an associate editor for two journals (the Journal of Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Statistics, and the Journal of Oral Implantology), and as a member of the leadership team for the AP Statistics Reading.

He works as an Associate Professor of Statistics and Data Science at Duquesne University, and has held administrative roles including Department Chair and Associate Dean of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts.  Dr. Kern's scholarly contributions have appeared in The American Statistician; Bayesian Statistics 6; Applied Organometallic Chemistry; Communications in Statistics: Simulation and Computation; Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education; The Journal of Oral Implantology; Macromolecules; Biomarkers; Journal of Applied Atomic Spectrometry; American Journal of Critical Care; The Journal of School Nursing; Analytical Chemistry; and Scientific Reports, among others. Dr. Kern's research interests broadly include Bayesian modeling and application as well as statistics and data science education.
