Biography

Dr. Kathleen S. Hartzel is an Associate Professor of Information Systems and Technology and Director of the M.S. in Analytics and Information Management program at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business. She teaches courses primarily in the areas of systems analysis and design, project management, and IS strategy.

Dr. Hartzel's research interests focus on computer-supported collaboration at both the organizational and group levels. Her research has appeared in a number of academic journals, including MIS Quarterly, Communications of the ACM, Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, and Journal of Computer Information Systems.

Prior to joining the faculty, she held several positions as a systems analyst and programmer. For most of that time, she worked for Unisys Corporation.

Dr. Hartzel is a member of the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) and holds the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) certifications. She also is a member of PMI Project Management Institute (PMI) where she earned the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) designation.

Research Interests

Dr. Hartzel's research focuses on the use of information system technology in supporting collaborative efforts at the group and organizational levels.

At the group level, she explores how the availability and use of technology affects behavior and attitudes in the areas of social responsibility and participation in social causes.

At the organizational level, she focuses on how inter-organizational information systems affect purchase decisions, supply chain performance, and demand planning.
