Biography
Dr. Henderson is an Associate Professor at Duquesne University where she also serves as the Department Chair and Program Director for the Master of Science in Athletic Training program. She received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education/Sports Injury Management from the University of South Alabama, a Master of Science in Health Promotion from Northwestern State University and a Doctorate of Education from Florida Gulf Coast University. Dr. Henderson has more than 20 years of teaching experience and teaches a variety of athletic training courses with areas of contemporary expertise upper extremity evaluation, therapeutic interventions, and general medical conditions.
Dr. Henderson’s research interests focus on curriculum and instruction along with clinical practice issues including numerous presentations and publications about Exertional Rhabdomyolysis and Sickle Cell Trait. She has worked as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of West Florida and as an athletic trainer at the Andrews Institute. She spent six years serving as Clinical Coordinator and then Program Director for Athletic Training Education at Texas Christian University before moving to Florida Gulf Coast University as the Clinical Education Coordinator then Nova Southeastern University also serving as the Clinical Education Director. Most recently, Dr. Henderson was the Program Director at the University of West Florida.
A certified athletic trainer for 27 years, Dr. Henderson is licensed in Florida and Pennsylvania and is a member of the NATA, EATA, and PATS. She has served as a Commission on Accreditation for Athletic Training Education (CAATE) peer reviewer since 2007 and is a past recipient of the NATA Service Award, the CAATE President’s Award, and the Bob and Lynn Caruthers Service Award. Dr. Henderson was recently inducted into the National Academics of Practice as a Distinguished Fellow in the AT Academy. She also was recognized for her faculty success and was selected as the 2024 ATAF Educator of the Year. Dr. Henderson has done extensive community outreach and spends time working with the athletic training students on professional development activities.
