Biography

Kristin D’Acunto is an Assistant Professor and Department Chair of the Physician Assistant Studies. She has been involved in PA education for 20 years, and first joined the Department at Duquesne University as an adjunct instructor in 2003. She transitioned into a full-time position in 2011 as Clinical Coordinator. As she desired to have a primary role in teaching, she transitioned into a full-time instructor role, and later was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2017. In 2019, she was appointed Assistant Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, and then Department Chair and Program Director in February 2021.

Kristin began her career as a PA in infectious diseases inpatient medicine with a private practice in Pittsburgh. In 2002, she began working at the University of Pittsburgh as a PA in clinical HIV research in the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) for over 20 years. During her time at the University of Pittsburgh, she was co-investigator of several studies within the MACS and co-authored articles in top tier journals such as the Journal of Infectious Diseases, AIDS, and American Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr. D’Acunto serves as a site visitor for the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) where she conducts site visits to PA programs throughout the country to ensure compliance with the Standards. She also serves as an abstract reviewer for the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants (PSPA) and the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA). Dr. D’Acunto earned an Ed.D. in Educational Technology from Duquesne University in May 2023. She completed a Capstone project titled A Quantitative Analysis of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Anatomy Instruction in Physician Assistant Education.
