Biography
Maria Comas serves as the Assistant Dean of Career Services at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University, where she provides guidance to law students and alumni regarding career planning, job search strategy, and professional development. She leads the office’s efforts to provide students with an individualized approach to career counseling, effective and timely programming and networking opportunities, and information about the nuances of various practice areas, practice settings, and job markets.
Maria engages with Duquesne Kline School of Law alumni and local bar associations as a way to create and develop professional connections within the legal community. Maria is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA), where she currently serves as a member of the Attorneys Against Hunger and Membership Committees and previously served as a two-term council member of the Women in the Law Division. She is a past co-president of the Women’s Bar Association of Western Pennsylvania and a current member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
She is a member of the Pittsburgh City Group for Legal Employment; the Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia Employment Resources group; and NALP (National Association of Law Placement). Maria has served as a panelist at two NALP Annual Education Conferences and has authored or co-authored five articles for publication in the NALP Bulletin. Maria served as a co-chair of NALP’s Small & Solo Office Section from April 2021-April 2023, and she currently serves as a co-vice chair of the Employer Outreach Work Group of the JD Advisors Section.
Maria has been recognized with the 2020 Carol Los Mansmann Helping Hand Award presented by the ACBA Women in the Law Division and with the 2019 Duquesne University Diversity and Inclusion Award. She has volunteered her time to Dress for Success Pittsburgh and the Duquesne University Women’s Guild, and she was an advisory board member of Katie’s Fund of Children’s Hospital for four years.
Maria received her J.D. from the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University in 2000. She received her B.S. in Business Administration and M.S. in Education from Duquesne University.
