Biography
A native of Québec City, Canada, Marylène Gingras-Roy joined the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 1997 and currently serves as Acting Associate Principal Viola. She has also been performing with the Sun Valley Music Festival for the last 26 years.
She studied at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music with Karen Tuttle and Joseph DePasquale, following earlier training at the Harid Conservatory and the Quebec Conservatory with teachers Victoria Chiang, François Paradis, and Douglas McNabney.
A dedicated teacher with over 30 years of experience, Marylène is Adjunct Professor of Viola at Duquesne University, maintains a private studio, and coaches youth orchestras. Her students have gone on to advanced studies and earned positions in professional ensembles.
She has appeared as soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Duquesne University Orchestra, and Pittsburgh youth ensembles. An avid chamber musician, she has performed in diverse ensembles, collaborating with colleagues and international artists in North America and Europe.
She performs on a viola made in 1972 by Italian-born maker Sergio Peresson.
