Biography
Tara Bradley-Steck is the managing — and founding — fellow of the Patricia Doherty Yoder Institute for Ethics and Integrity in Journalism and Media, overseeing policies, mission, programs and community outreach in concert with the Yoder Institute’s director.
Bradley-Steck started her daily newspaper career at the Beaver County Times in Beaver, Pa., working as a courts/government reporter, then features writer and finally investigative reporter. She then joined The Associated Press in Pittsburgh, first as a newswoman and then as correspondent, overseeing a staff of 10 covering the western half of the state. During her 15 years with the AP, she covered everything from tornadoes and floods to organ transplants to the demise of the steel industry. After leaving the AP, Bradley-Steck taught journalism at the University of Pittsburgh, worked as a media consultant and editor, and most recently served as senior adviser for communications to Duquesne University President Ken Gormley.
Her many professional accomplishments include Pennsylvania AP staffer of the year and awards for news and investigative reporting from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association, Pennsylvania Women’s Press Association, Women in Communications, American Bar Association, American Cancer Society and National Society of Professional Engineers.
Bradley-Steck and her husband run a bed-and-breakfast on their 35-acre farm north of Pittsburgh, are parents to two spoiled golden retrievers and are avid equestrians.
