Biography
Troy Thibodeaux is the 2026 visiting media scholar for the Patricia Doherty Yoder Institute for Ethics and Integrity in Journalism and Media. His special topics course “Ethical Use of AI in Today’s Media” explores the ethical implications of AI in the journalism, public relations and media spheres. Prior to his appointment at Duquesne, Troy taught literature, philosophy and business writing courses at NYU and LSU.
Troy serves as director of AI products and services for The Associated Press, where he leads initiatives to responsibly harness the power of AI to serve AP’s journalism. He has spent his career at the intersection of news and technology — from building interactive election results maps to launching AP’s news applications and data journalism teams. Troy and his teammates were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for keeping Nola.com working during Hurricane Katrina.
Before turning to focus exclusively on AI in 2024, he helped launch the digital news team at AP, including the first full-time positions managing newsletters, social media and digital curation. He lives in New Orleans with his wife and twin boys, who all love the local food and music as much as he does.
