The Palumbo-Donahue School of Business announces the redesign of its Professional MBA program, now the Flex MBA, after comprehensive research, market analysis and stakeholder engagement. The program launches in Fall 2025 and will deliver an accessible, career-oriented education for working professionals by emphasizing flexibility, value and future-focused learning.
The 33-credit Flex MBA offers students a seamless path to dual credentials—an MBA
and a specialized certificate—allowing them to achieve bigger goals. Certificates
include Analytics and Information Management (STEM), Entrepreneurship, Executive Leadership,
Finance (STEM) and Supply Chain Management (STEM).
“As an MBA student, I chose to pursue a certificate in Entrepreneurship to enhance
my skills and expertise in this area, giving me a competitive advantage in the market,”
said student Christopher Pierre. “The Flex MBA offers a unique opportunity to integrate
a certificate without the need for additional credits, enabling me to enhance my qualifications
quickly and cost-effectively. This is a great opportunity for professionals who value
continued learning and growth or who are looking to advance their careers efficiently.”
A focus on technology ensures that graduates are prepared for an evolving workforce
that requires employees to be tech-fluent across business functions. According to
the 2024 Corporate Recruiters Survey from Graduate Management Admission Council™,
employers predict that strategy and problem-solving will remain important for employers
over the next five years, while technology, AI skills, innovation and global business
will become increasingly important.
“In redesigning this program, the Flex MBA breaks from the traditional model to walk
alongside students so they gain the cutting-edge skills that companies are looking
for,” said Dr. Dean McFarlin, dean of the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business. "As
industry demands evolve, so too must our approach to business education. We’re committed
to sending graduates into the workforce sooner and with difference-making skills that
will set them apart.”
Through a customizable curriculum, support services and experiential learning, graduates
will emerge with confidence and expertise needed to lead high-performing teams and
drive innovation, even as technology continues to evolve.
Additionally, the program’s structure opens additional credit-sharing opportunities
that further reduce the total credits required for many of the School’s joint degrees.
Key Features of the Flex MBA:
- Flexible Learning Options – Students can choose between hybrid and online formats to accommodate their schedules.
- Customized Curriculum – Elective courses and embedded certificates at no additional cost allow students to tailor their education while completing their degree faster.
- Accelerated Completion – A streamlined 33-credit structure enables students to finish in as few as four semesters.
- Industry-Relevant Learning – Courses emphasize real-world applications with executive guest speakers, case studies and hands-on business scenarios.
- Enhanced Career Support – Students gain access to career workshops, networking events and professional development resources.
