The Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) recently voted unanimously to reaccredit the Duquesne University Department of Public Safety and grant it the prestigious Premier Agency status, a designation reserved for only a select few law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth.

“Your work in this program demonstrates the type of leadership that we strive for in law enforcement in Pennsylvania,” Accreditation Program Coordinator James Adams said. “Only a small percentage of law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania are able to say that they have completed this rigorous program and even fewer have achieved Premier Agency status.

The PLEAC, which includes standards specific to legislated legal mandates and recognized best practices in law enforcement, was developed in 2002 by the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association to enhance the success of law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth.

“We are honored to receive unanimous reaccreditation and Premier Agency status from the state’s Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, which reflects our department’s dedication to excellence, accountability and continuous improvement,” said Eric Holmes, assistant vice president of public safety and chief of police at Duquesne University. “This recognition also underscores our commitment to bigger goals and providing the highest level of service and safety to our campus community.”
