Duquesne will honor more than 400 members of the Class of 2022 on Friday, Dec. 16, along with famed “Mr. Rogers’ Handyman” Joe Negri, during the University’s Winter Commencement. President Ken Gormley will preside at the ceremony, which will be held at 11 a.m. in the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
During the event, Gormley will present Negri, a Duquesne professor for more than 40 years, with the “Presidential Award for Extraordinary Service to Duquesne University and the Community.” Negri will also lead a sing along of the classic Mr. Rogers’ song Such a Good Feeling. Gormley will confer the student degrees.
An adjunct professor of jazz guitar, Negri appeared as himself and as “Handyman Negri” in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe segments on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
The event will also mark the first time that the University’s new alma mater will be played at a commencement ceremony.
The annual event reflects Duquesne’s commitment to horizon-expanding education that prepares students to make a difference in their communities and the world.
